Our working Distillery, whiskey maturation & blending warehouse, and Visitor Experience rise among the rugged Skellig Coast landscape. We have created a place of beauty for the people of Iveragh to work in and be proud of, where local, artisanal distilling is at our core.
This former textile factory, which once employed over 240 people, has been transformed through teamwork and a belief that anything is possible if you have faith and work hard. We have breathed new life into the space, a rebirth that brings with it both employment and visitors from all over the world.
In more recent years, the warehouse has housed boats, returning to the water each summer to bring international visitors to the ancient monastic site on Skellig Michael. Our warehouse was cleared out for a final time, heralding a new beginning for this building.
Our focus here in the Distillery is to continue to develop a sustainable and energy-efficient distillation process with modern energy-saving technologies embedded into the design of the 2T Whiskey Distillery, which has a capacity of 1M LPA. Our pure water sources include a stream, with water pouring down from the Beenatee mountain directly behind us, and rainfall collection from our roof, as we are the first landfall point from those rain clouds blowing in off the Atlantic.
Our footprint here, how our building sits among the landscape along the Skellig Coastline, is something we have considered hugely important from the beginning.
Our Distillery and Visitor Experience is the beating heart of Skellig Six18 and our spiritual home. It was born out of the local community that took on seemingly impossible challenges built at the edge of two worlds in Cahersiveen, the “town that climbs the mountain and looks upon the sea.”
Within this setting, experience a truly unique guided tour, which won The Double Gold at the International Spirits Challenge Awards 2022 in London. Each tour is led by a local Storyteller who narrates the journey of Skellig Six18 to date and where we’re headed.
A cosy corner, protected and filled with warmth. In Irish pubs, the snug is where we tell stories in hushed voices, share laughter and spend quality time with companions. We now have our very own snug here at the Distillery. A luxurious whiskey experience, created specifically for those enthusiasts who want to fully immerse themselves in the world of whiskey. With bespoke blending classes, the snug will also offer the option to pour your own bottle of whiskey direct from the cask of our exclusive Distillery only, one-off whiskeys. Perfect for groups and whiskey lovers
Experience first-hand how our gin is made, crafted batch by batch. Our Italian bespoke copper gin still is of pot still design where the local, wild botanicals we use are individually distilled. The correct temperature, pressure and time in the still are chosen for each botanical to ensure optimum taste and the separate distillates are then blended slowly in the right proportions to attain a signature Skellig Six taste in every bottle.
Like the Wild Atlantic slowly shapes our coastline, our journey to creating our very own Irish Pot Still Whiskey requires patience. We have been quietly maturing carefully selected casks in our maturation warehouse. Once the flavour profile is where we want it, we marry and blend the whiskey and bottle it here in Cahersiveen. Our first exclusive releases are now available in our online shop.
