Our Distillery

Our working distillery, whiskey maturation and blending warehouse, and visitor experience sit within the rugged landscape of the Skellig Coast. This is a place shaped by sea, mountain and community.

We have created a distillery the people of Iveragh can be proud of. Local, small-batch distilling sits at the heart of everything we do, supported by skilled craftsmanship and deep respect for our surroundings.

Regeneration Of Our Building

Our distillery is housed in a former textile factory that once employed more than 240 people. Through teamwork, belief and hard work, the building has been given a new purpose.

This regeneration has brought fresh life to the space, creating employment and welcoming visitors from around the world.

In more recent years, the warehouse stored boats that returned to the water each summer, carrying international visitors to the ancient monastic site on Skellig Michael. When the building was cleared for the final time, it marked the beginning of a new chapter.

Distilling For The Future

Sustainability and efficiency are central to how we distil.

Our modern two-tonne whiskey distillery has a capacity of one million litres of alcohol per annum (LPA). Energy-saving technologies are built into its design, supporting a long-term, responsible approach to production.

Our water sources are entirely natural and locally sourced: A stream flowing from Beenatee Mountain directly behind the distillery, and Rainwater collected from our roof, as we are the first landfall for Atlantic weather systems

From the earliest planning stages, we carefully considered how our building would sit within the Skellig Coast landscape and minimise its environmental footprint.

Visitor Experience

The distillery and visitor experience is the beating heart of Skellig Six18 and our spiritual home. It grew from a local community that has always taken on challenges at the edge of two worlds.

Cahersiveen is known as the town that climbs the mountain and looks out to sea. That same spirit shapes every visit.

Guests can enjoy a guided distillery tour led by a local storyteller, sharing the journey of Skellig Six18, where it began, and where it is heading. Our visitor experience was awarded Double Gold at the International Spirits Challenge Awards 2022 in London.

The Snug

A snug is a cherished space in Irish pub culture. It is a cosy corner where stories are shared, laughter flows, and time slows down.

Our snug at the distillery offers a premium whiskey experience for those who want to immerse themselves fully in the craft. Designed for whiskey enthusiasts and small groups, experiences include:

  • Bespoke whiskey blending classes
  • The opportunity to draw and bottle your own whiskey directly from the cask
  • Access to distillery-exclusive, one-off releases

This experience is ideal for groups, special occasions and dedicated whiskey lovers.

Our Gin Journey

Experience how our gin is made, from start to finish.

Our bespoke Italian copper gin still uses a traditional pot still design. Each wild, locally sourced botanical is distilled separately, allowing us to control temperature, pressure and timing for optimal flavour extraction.

Once distilled, the botanicals are blended slowly and carefully to achieve the signature Skellig Six18 taste in every bottle.

Our Whiskey Journey

Just as the Wild Atlantic slowly shapes the coastline, crafting Irish Single Pot Still whiskey requires patience and time.

Selected casks mature quietly in our on-site warehouse until the flavour profile is exactly where we want it. Once ready, the whiskey is married, blended and bottled here in Cahersiveen.
