Our Distillery and Visitor Experience rises among the rugged Skellig Coast landscape. A place of beauty for the people of Uíbh Ráthach to work in and be proud of, and an experience for the world to drink in.
With our planning permission approved, licenses secured and bond in place, this former factory that housed the Skellig Boats is being transformed through teamwork and some good old-fashioned Kerry grafting. We are breathing new life into the space, bringing employment and visitors from all over the world.
For the past couple of years, the warehouse has housed boats. Each Summer they returned to the water, bringing visitors to the ancient and sacred UNESCO World Heritage Site on Skellig Michael. Our warehouse was cleared out for the final time in Summer 2019, heralding a new beginning for this building.
Our distillery is the new home of our Irish Artisan Gin. With every drop of gin distilled in Cahersiveen, each bottle will be hand-finished by our team. In 2020, we are finalising the design on our Whiskey Distillery Plant, to be ordered and built in 2020. This will put Cahersiveen on the global whiskey stage.
Our focus here in the distillery is to ensure a sustainable and energy efficient distillation process. Our pure soft water sources will include an onsite well, with water pouring down from the Beenatee mountain, and rainfall collection from our roof. We are the first landfall point for those rain clouds blowing in off the Atlantic.
The communities here on the Skellig Coast live and work around the vagaries and the weather of the Atlantic Ocean, proving our adaptability. Here at the Skellig Six18 Distillery we are playing our part in rebuilding this area by providing new opportunities for this generation to stay here, or return home.
Our unique position on the Atlantic Coast means there are many beautiful scenic routes that take travellers directly past our doors from the Wild Atlantic Way, Skellig Coast and the Ring of Kerry. Our Distillery Visitor Experience showcases the Irish whiskey tradition and tells some of the stories from this landscape which is rich in history and character. On our doorstep
