Our Distillery & Visitor Experience is located right here on the Coastline, in Cahersiveen where the mountains meet the sea. The same wild landscape that motivated sixth-century monks to build their monastery 11km out in the Atlantic Ocean. From a small landing cove on granite rock, they crafted six hundred and eighteen steps to reach their monastery on the top of Skellig Michael.

This feat, their journey, inspires Skellig Six18 today.

Skellig Six18 Distillery, an independent distillery nestled in picturesque Co. Kerry, Ireland, is thrilled to announce its expansion into Germany, partnering with IrishWhiskeys.de. This marks a significant milestone in the distillery’s journey of crafting exceptional spirits.

The Distillery in the town of Cahersiveen, on the iconic Ring of Kerry where rugged mountains meet rugged sea. It’s distillery is a tribute to the region’s rich history, inspired by the legendary sixth-century monks who built their monastery on Skellig Michael (The island was used to film the planet Ahch-To for the latest Star Wars trilogy) , located 7 miles of the Kerry coast, ascending over six hundred steps from a remote landing cove.

The distillery is known for its unique approach to whiskey, focusing on curating and crafting a range of limited-edition whiskies with meticulous attention to detail. The Skellig Six18 Collection includes Skellig Six18 Gin, Small Batch Whiskey, and the award-winning Skellig Triple Cask Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey, which earned a Master’s Medal at the 2023 Spirit Business Awards Irish Whiskey Masters. This expression is a tribute to the traditional Irish Whiskey style – Single Pot Still, known for its silky texture and soft spice, achieved using both malted and unmalted barley and triple distillation in copper pot stills.

Skellig Six18 Irish Whiskey, matured in ex-Bourbon barrels and finished in Pedro Ximénez Sherry casks, reflects the historical maritime trade between the Skellig Coast and European ports, with part of this whiskey also finished in a former peated cask, adding a subtle hint of peat that echoes the geography and aromas of the Skellig Coast.

The distillery also offers a unique Irish artisanal gin, distilled in small batches and hand finished in Cahersiveen. Each botanical is carefully chosen to encapsulate the essence of the Atlantic Coast. The gin’s distinct flavour comes from four specially chosen wild botanicals: Douglas Fir, Birch, Yarrow, and Dillisk, each contributing its unique flavour profile. Crafted in small batches with meticulous care, the selection of local botanicals captures the true essence of the homeland in every bottle.

Benefiting from its prime coastal location, the distillery offers the perfect environment for spirit maturation. The salted sea air combined with the temperate climate ensures a flawless integration of wood and whiskey, contributing to the exceptional quality of Skellig Six18’s spirits.

Skellig Six18’s range of spirits is now available for purchase in Germany through the Irish Whiskies Germany online store.

The making of Skellig Six18 has been a collaborative journey, involving local farmers and foragers to ensure the authenticity and quality of the ingredients. Their spirits and expressions represent the land, history, and community of Ireland, now inviting enthusiasts in Germany to explore the essence of Ireland.
